The Evolving Role of Indigenous Nations in Environmental Regulation in BC
This talk will include a high level overview of aboriginal rights and title, the legal regimes for land in BC, a brief summary of the recent Yahey case, and the legislative framework in BC for implementing UNDRIP. It will cover two examples of recent agreements between the BC government and specific Indigenous Nations, as they relate to environmental regulation.

Mr. Lewis will review notable environmental law decisions of the past year, highlighting key trends from the cases. The review will cover topics including an update on the litigation about GFL Environmental Inc.’s composting facility in Delta, federal carbon pricing legislation, contaminated sites remediation costs, and fines in environmental prosecutions.
