The EMA of BC’s November 15th, 2012 tour of the UBC – Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS) was a great success. Our tour guides took us through the various rooms and spaces in the building, and introduced us to the components of the building that result in net positive energy usage. Highlights of the tour included the living roof, movable living walls, reclaimed water system, and rainwater collection system.
The tour wrapped up with a presentation by Blair McCarry of Perkins + Will on sustainable development projects, with particular focus on a sustainable community being built in Edmonton. Overall, the event was an engaging learning experience. Thank you to UBC – CIRS for the tour and MHPM Project Managers Inc., who sponsored the appetizer and beverage buffet for the networking session that followed.
