Summary of the 7th Annual EMA Awards Gala

The EMA of BC was thrilled to host the 7th Annual Environmental Management Awards Gala at the fantastic Terminal City Club on June 13th, 2018.

Over 100 guests attended this sold-out event, which recognizes and celebrates the extraordinary achievements of environmental managers in BC and showcases some of the many exciting environmental projects completed in the past year.

The night began with a beautiful Champagne Reception sponsored by ERIS, after which EMA of BC departing President, Leanne Harris, recognized the 2018 EMA of BC Board of Directors, and gave her welcome speech. Opening remarks were given by co-MC, Pamela O – EMA of BC Executive Director, and a delicious three-course dinner was served with wine sponsored by AGAT Laboratories. This was followed by a delightful dessert buffet and an opportunity to mingle and enjoy some wonderful live music by the jazz trio Swing-2-Beat.

During dinner, finalists presented their submissions, and the winners of each award category were announced by our generous Silver level sponsors: Borden Ladner Gervais, Tervita, and Stormtec.

This year’s award categories were Remediation & Restoration, Emission & Discharge Control, Regulatory Challenge, Emerging Environmental Professional, & the third annual Member’s Choice Award.

The EMA of BC was also excited to present our first annual First Nations Environmental Management Project Grant, which provides $1500 in grant funds to a BC First Nations group working on an impactful environmental management project. This year the grant was awarded to the Tsleil-Waututh Nation for their Kelp and Eelgrass Mapping project. Learn more about their project here!
